Nurses and midwives in the country had earlier in the week lamented the deactivation of the NMCN verification portal since December 2023.The nurses, who spoke with our correspondent in separate interviews, alleged that the deactivation of the portal by the council was an attempt to hinder their freedom to pursue career opportunities abroad. They also said it was not unconnected to the plan of the Federal Government to reduce the number of health workers travelling out of the country to seek greener pastures.
The NMCN is the only legal, administrative, corporate, and statutory body charged with performing specific functions on behalf of the Federal Government to ensure the delivery of safe and effective nursing and midwifery care to the public through quality education and best practices. The council is mandated by law to regulate the standards of nursing and midwifery education and practice in Nigeria and to review such standards from time to time to meet the changing health needs of society. In 2023, the NANNM said over 75,000 nurses and midwives left the country in five years to seek greener pastures.
Please forward until it gets to DR Faruk Umar Abubakar, RN, FWCN. REGISTRAR/ CEO NMCN NIGERIA. *Compromise –
The glitch that Destroys A noble standing.* Open letter to Dr Faruk Umar Abubakar -RN, FWCN -Registrar/ CEO NMCN.DR Faruk at some point we gave curdles to you for the several reforms that have arose from the NMCM board in recent years which was geared towards enhancing the Nursing professional and also bringing a positive image to All Nurses including you. In the same profession you were called into just like the recently qualified Nurses, we all deserve a better life and pay to meet the aspirations of all Asundry and we never be complacent nor comfortable with any system that is only interested in gaining from our intellectual acumen and not ready to equivocate the gesture.Dr Faruk just 2years back you told the immediate past Minister of health that you cannot stop Nurses migration owing to the fact that verification fees paid by Nurses have generated over a billion naira to NMCN for completion of the 2.5billion Naira new Ultramodern NMCN office complex were all staffs including you and the boards members of NMCN are comfortably seated and out of which FGN only gave 259million. Within a short time you have forgotten this and have *compromised*DR Faruk you initiated the academic appellations of Nursing certificates through the mandatory upgrading of SONs to Colleges/ Department of Nursing Sciences and Nurses with all doggedness pursued their dreams of becoming graduate Nurses with their hard earned money and today by making verification a mirage your have *comprised* You introduced CBT examinations to meet global standards as obtainable with other international exams and Within 48 hours you designed a software to release professional examination results but you are same person telling us verification now takes a minimum of 6months you have *compromised*Dr Faruk we are very much aware that All professional boards and parastatals were recently dissolved by the FGN except NMCN, if you are into a game to keep your appointment and now decides to make insane policies against the fingers and professional Nurses that feed you then I am sorry to say that this is not only a *compromise* but a move that will put you and yours at the mercy of Nurses your which to berate and have chosen to betray. How are the mighty fallen, Dr Faruk what offences have Nurses committed, does it not gladens your heart that Nigerian trained nurses have become the most sought fall professional internationally? and yet you have threw yourself as bait to the failed country through *compromise* you might not like this but your fall is near if you don’t revert those devilish conditions you have made recently pertaining to Nurses verification .Dr Faruk, We are concerned Nurses , we shall rest our case and when we meet on 12 Feb 2024 we will know who is the greatest between you and the great Nigerian Nurses.Great Nigerian Nurses..
