In the Toyin area of the Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State, a gas tanker caught fire along Agbado Road.
A number of stores stocked with goods were destroyed in the tragic incident.
The Head of the Lagos State Fire and Salvage Administration, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the development to Punch on Tuesday.
As indicated by Adeseye, the effect of the fire left a few shops destroyed, while the agents of the state fire service had the option to diminish its spread.
She said, “The fire, which was accounted for at 22:04 hours Tuesday because of a gas tanker that accidentally caught fire and was accompanied by an explosion, has been restricted to the tanker and the bordering column of shops it spread to as concerted efforts are ongoing to prevent further spread to protect the environment and property, including the close by Kerozone Oil Filling Station.”
Likewise, the Lagos State Organizer of the National Emergency Management Authority, Ibrahim Farinloye, unveiled that the tanker crashed into a shaft while attempting to enter the premises where it was to offload its substance.
“There was an incident with a fire,” Farinloye said. It began when a tanker that was going to offload its substance at a filling station along the street crashed into an electric post. The effect of the crash prompted a link to fall on the holder and consequently brought about a spark.
“Emergency responders had the option to contain the spread of the fire to avoid losses. No lives were lost except for certain shops that were destroyed.”
